9-12-10 Yellowstone Finally We Made It

9/12/10  Yellowstone Finally!!!
We arrived in Yellowstone around 11:00am and the first thing we saw was the Roosevelt Lodge and then we stopped at the Tower Falls one of the most beautiful falls and one of the busiest areas in the park.  We drove down south to the Canyon area through Mt Washburn where there had been some wildfires that had destroyed all the trees.  We stopped in Canyon Village and ate a hot dog/hamburger at their diner that had a 50's decor and we talked with some people from Liverpool and some guys from Louisiana that had been doing some fly fishing. 

We then drove over to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and walked to see the Upper and Lower waterfalls and the Canyon.  The colors were wonderful yellow shades of stone and the waterfalls were absolutely magnificant!  At Artist point we had some people take picture of us with the canyon and the waterfalls in the background and posted those on Facebook.  The canyon was definitely the best part of Yellowstone in my opinion.  On our drive from Canyon area through Fisher Bridge area we saw 3 wolves playing in the open fields and one grizzly bear off in a distance.  We also saw some buffaloe.

We then drove over to Yellowstone Lake which is a deep blue color with the snow topped mountains in the background.  We drove around the front of the Yellowstone Lake Hotel the oldest building in the park and is where Robbie and I stayed back in June 2010 when we were there visiting.  We had booked a RV site in Jackson Hole but decided to change and stay in the park so I went into the hotel and used their phone to make a reservation at Grant Village RV site in Yellowstone just a few miles from the hotel.  (still no cell phone service or internet service)

We stopped in at West Thumb Geyser Basin and walked around and took pictures for a little while and then decided it was time to go to the RV site.   When we got to Grant Village RV site I had to wait in line for about 1 hour to get our site location, park rules and information about the bears in the area.  The park ranger said there was one grizzly in the area but he/she had not hurt anyone and it was safe to have a campfire and enjoy the park but not to leave any food or anything outside our RV that had a food smell.  Since this is a National Park the RV sites DO NOT have electricity, water or sewer hookups so we could only use the generator from 8am to 8pm.  It was 6:30 before we got to the campsite and the first thing we did was to try and build us a fire and sit outside since it was really nice weather.  We did get a fire going but we need to brush up on our girl scout techniques since it didn't last very long, but Joyce kept pouring lighter fluid on the fire.  We sat outside for a while until it started getting dark and then a little girl on her bike came up and asked me if I knew where she could find a stick to cook her hot dog.  I told her no but we had been cooking marshmallows on skrewers so we gave her one but she wouldn't take it so I took it to her campsite and talked with her mother.  They were a family of 4 from Oregon on a big vacation trip and the little boy about 12 was writing a blog also.

The next morning before we left the campgrounds the father of the little girl brought us 2 pictures that the kids had colored for us and he told us he had actually cooked 4 hot dogs at one time with the skewer we gave him.  He thanks us and then left.
