Our first visit this morning was to Old Faithful and we timed it just right. When we got parked and walked up to Old Faithful it went off within about 2 minutes after we arrived. We got pictures went into the new Educational center and bought some souvenirs and got maps, etc. Instead of walking around to see the other geysers which was a 2.8 mile walk Joyce decided she wanted to try to see some other areas instead of doing the hike. We went over to the service station to get some gas and make some phone calls since we finally had cell phone service. When filling the gas tank she noticed the side of the RV was coming apart!!! We think all the wind and rain storms we went through had torn the siding out of the corner so we waited about 30 minutes for the service technician to come take a look at it. Also, the night before when we had not been able to run the generator after 8pm the heater in the RV kept coming on (it is gas) but the blower would not because we didn't have electricity so the alarm system went off a couple of times during the night. We think the fan/blower didn't come on because the house battery was low so we asked the guy to check that also.
The service technician was from New York and had the sweetest smile, a young man that we were both thinking we needed to fix him up with one of the granddaughters. He fixed the side of the RV with some screws and washers and we bought a new house battery because he said the power was way too low and that would have caused our alarm and blower problems. After about 1.5 hours we were back out sightseeing.
We went to Midway Basin and Black Basin and saw some beautiful blue, aqua, tourquoise boiling pools and walked the 1/4 mile loop on the boardwalk. We stopped and some man started talking with Joyce and telling her jokes and she said he reminded her of Randy. His girlfriend came up and said " what are you doing flirting with the ladies again?" Joyce said that was just like Randy! This man was big, with white hair and his actions and talking did reminds us of Randy for sure.
We drove down out of Yellowstone and toward the Grand Tetons! It was getting late and the sun was going down so we stopped at Colter Bay campground in the Grand Tetons. Again this was a national park campground so there was no cell phone service, no electricity, no water, no sewer and out in the wilderness! We saw signs everywhere "Beware of the Bears" and were afraid to walk the dogs. We took the fog horn with us all the time. Since we could not run the generator again after 8pm we cooked dinner, walked the dogs and then went to bed. It was a cold scary night but we did have some neighbors but no one was outside talking with anyone at this campsite.
We made it through the RV problems without too much hassle and it only costs about $150 to get a new battery and have the side fixed.
We had a lucky day after all!
